FILM DIRECTOR IMMIGRATES

I have lived in Cape Town, South Africa for more than 40 years, and we decided in 2020, that we would like to look at moving abroad , and Portugal was chosen, after much deliberation. The journey that followed is the journey that I’d like to share. Moving abroad, is not for the feint hearted.

Sharing my experiences will enrich those who read this, as I will take you on a journey of what not to do, and what to do, and how to do it. Being a film director I am detail orientated so the information will empower dreamers and those wising to make a change in their lives.

So who am I ?

I am a husband, a father, a friend, a film director and sometimes a pain in the x#@@! but much like everybody else i want to live well, be considerate, build memories and do the best I can for my family.

The film Industry has been kind to me, I am the captain of a ship, alongside my business partner and have created a legacy of success from which I have learnt so much. And now we are about to embark on the unknown?

FIRST QUESTION WHEN PLANNING YOUR MOVE

Do we sell all we have? or do we rent or whats best going forward?

So for me, I had to ask myself How many people can say they live in heaven?and I think I can!!! our home in Cape Town gets a sunrise and a sunset, and we see the Indian Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean. Could one replace this?, I don’t think so, so we decided to rent not sell.

From out front door we see the most beautiful views imaginable

A life made up of memories, and friends, is all about to change. This is the blog I’d like to write, that is both useful and a good read, being a film director I’d like to tell a story that evokes imagination and emotion, something that you as the reader can relate to.

This journey of questions and answers and how to approach the journey will I hope help others and inspire people to live their best lives. Moving is not for everybody, so please I am not propagating change, I am just going to share our journey and the ups and downs, the pitfalls and the moments of elation. Its not all plain sailing,

the NEXT BLOG I’d like to share why we are leaving? Are you leaving for the right reason? is Immigration the answer?

Telling meaningful stories whether they shorts or features is what gets me out of bed every day. Passionate about those captured in slavery. Biographical films (The Perfect wave with Scott Eastwood) and (Biblical epic Samson with the late Rutger Hauer, Jackson Rathbone, Billy Zane and Taylor James) My recent short films Beat The Curve, Sex Tourism Labour have been awarded best shorts across the globe in 2020.
